so the other week I had some acute pain that I attributed to an inaccurate cause. It happens. There's a long list of differentials and I wanted it to be the striped zebra. Turns out that I incurred another stress fracture. This time in my pelvis making it excruciatingly painful to sit on my bicycle seat properly. It was suggested that it was likely to have developed because I don't use regulatory riding shorts that have the cushy padding in the bottom. Lesson for the weathered cycling masses? Wear padded shorts.
I subscribe to cost efficient training and that means that I eliminate most of the things that would make my training and racing more comfortable like padded shorts, massage therapy, sleep. OUCH! It's not going to be fun on my bike for the next couple thousand kilometres.
I was thinking of becoming a one night stand kind of girl for the remainder of my years, but my goals in this area may be slightly hindered by this injury for now :-P

Wow. That's a huge drag. I've never had a stress fracture, but my brother has gotten 2. One was his hip and he didn't even realize it for 2 days!
Yoga has lower rates of injury :-)))
Is your brother an athlete?
These things are damn painful but it's not such a big deal. Last year I had one in my foot and raced at long course worlds with it. Mind over matter, but they do need time to heal. If we can deal with childbirth then a stress fracture is a piece of cake... not that I've gone through childbirth yet but this will toughen me up :-)
My brother is a workoutaholic. He normally swims, but he has taken a liking to the gym. I have found his stress fractures (he had 2 in 6 weeks) to be very scary.
2 in 6 weeks is a major warning sign. Swimming doesn't cause enough pressure to create stress fractures but gym workouts could. He probably needs to reign in his workouts, get a bone density scan and a full workup to see if there are any other underlying causes. It's very worrying to find frequent stress fractures in men who aren't generally predisposed to it. It can commonly occur in men serving in the military because of the physical stress and improper gear but its much less common in the general population.
I'd have him look into it asap.
